Have you explored RTE’s extensive online archives?
The RTÉ Archives host a treasure trove of exhibitions, stills and footage from yesteryear. A comprehensive St. Patrick’s weekend online exhibition will feature a roundup of parades (1965), Shamrock Farming from 1966, and a Late Late Show St. Patrick’s special from London in 1980.
The RTÉ Archives are a central repository for all RTÉ Broadcast (TV and Radio) and stills material collected and preserved by RTE for nearly a century, and is the largest collection of audiovisual material in Ireland.
A unique record of Irish life, the RTÉ Archives house manuscripts, still photography, and thousands of hours of moving images and sound recordings capturing both the moments that have shaped Irish history, to rare glimpses of everyday life throughout the decades.
Telling the story of Ireland’s history, the archives provides an insight to the Ireland of yesteryear, spanning genres from political, historical and cultural and sporting events that shaped the nation.
