RTÉ Player gains 300,000 users in the last six months and is Ireland’s leading on-demand TV and catch-up service
Premium content attracts under 34s, ABC1s and parents as their primary audience
In a market that has seen VOD usage grow by 35% over the last 18 months, RTÉ Player is by far the most popular on-demand TV catch-up service outperforming every other on-demand service in the market. Gaining over 300,000 users in the last six months alone, 8 out of 10 VOD users confirmed they have used RTÉ Player according to the latest B&A Research on RTÉ Player.
“Great content, ease of use, and the increased availability on multiple devices, has shown that the RTÉ Player is extremely popular amongst all ages and lifestyles”, commented Conor Mullen, RTÉ Digital’s Commercial Director. “The RTÉ Player attracts a strong audience with drama, comedy, sport and current affairs proving most popular. Audiences enjoy the ability to control when and where they can watch their favourite programmes”.
A young user base, the survey showed RTÉ Player is used by 54% of under 24’s, and 44% of the 24-35 age range. In addition, 40% of parents use the service, with drama and entertainment being their most popular programme genres.
“We have seen a significant increase in usage on personal devices such as tablets and this is leading to different viewing patterns by a younger audience across the RTÉ Player ”, concluded Mullen. “ We expect this pattern to continue as Irish consumers adopt tablets in their everyday use”
